The remaining curriculum areas
PHYSICAL EDUCATIONChildren have the opportunity to develop skills in all forms of physical activity, working as individuals and as a part of a team. Lessons are provided in gymnastics, dance, athletics and games. The school provides children with equal opportunities within sport and encourage all children to be supportive team players as well as developing their individual expertise.
All Junior age children have swimming lessons at Duston Pool and it is our aim that all children can swim when they reach secondary age. We pride ourselves on the amount of swimming lessons each child is able to attend and on our 100% attainment for Year 6 pupils who can swim 25 metres.
RELIGIOUS EDUCATIONWe aim to help the children to develop a responsible attitude towards other people; to foster their sense of wonder at, and reverence for, life. We provide children with an understanding of Christianity and other religions and cultures.
We have strong links with St Mary's Church in Great Brington and the Baptist Chapel in Little Brington. The children use these establishments as resources for their studies and ministers from both deliver assemblies on a regular basis.
CITIZENSHIP, PERSONAL, SOCIAL AND HEALTH EDUCATION.Children are made aware of the need to care for their own bodies through health, exercise, diet and personal habits. they are instructed in safety in the home and at school, as wells as on the roads. Year 5 and 6 children all undertake St John's Ambulance First Aid courses.
Family relationships are discussed as a matter of course and children in years 5 and 6 follow a specific course in Sex Education.
More recently, Drug Awareness has been introduced as part of our curriculum.
