Macaroni was woken in the night by a boom like an atom bomb. He sat up in bed, shuddering with fear. He expected to see the wall implode. Then he heard a howl and he knew it was just the wind. It was like a monsoon. He ran to the window. There were clouds. He could see a pale full moon, but there was also a red eye. The air was hot and stuffy. His throat was dry.
