AROUND THE WORLD IN 5 DAYS - BRINGTON GEOGRAPHY WEEK

"We wish it was Geography week every week. Geography is cool!"(Year 6 girls)
Week commencing 8th October 2001, saw National Geography Action Week. To co-incide with this event, we decided to hold our own Geography Week, with a theme of 'Around the world in 5 days'.
A continent of the world was assigned to each of the 5 days as follows:Monday - Asia
Tuesday - The Americas
Wednesday - Africa
Thursday - Australasia
Friday - Europe.
Each day, assembly was focused upon the particular continent for that day. Activities then took place in classrooms, with groups completing a variety of different geography activities.
Maps were in evidence everywhere, with a wide range of activities based upon them! Food from different continents was served throughout the week and the children had the opportunity to examine and handle artefacts from the different areas of the world.
A singing session based on an African story took place, with the whole school taking part. African songs could be heard echoing around the playground afterwards. The following pages show the activities the children took part in and the fun we all had!
Examples of work produced are portrayed in the Gallery.
